FAQ

Learn more about DyMynd Angels and the 1920 Vote your Money Campaign by reading our list of frequently asked questions.

Why was DyMynd Angels created? Around the world, women yield tremendous economic power but the market women represent as investors, is vastly untapped. In 2013 Women only represented 19% of all angel investors in the united states. This represents an enormous missed opportunity for female entrepreneurs and this is where DyMynd Angels will be most effective. Together we will close the funding gap and change the way women access capital.
What is the primary goal of DyMynd Angels? DyMynd Angels’ primary goal is to elevate the entire female entrepreneurial eco system. DA empowers the female funder to get involved in the entrepreneurial space and disrupt the way in which female entrepreneurs access capital. Our goal is to continue to develop dynamic educational environments that elevates each woman into the entrepreneurial space and removes the barriers for HER to engage so that SHE may provide female entrepreneurs with new access to a more inclusive and supportive community of investors.
How is DyMynd Angels going to close the funding gap? DyMynd Angels will utilize simple, logical and proven tactics to tackle the enormous funding gap. We will increase the number of future female funders to address the funding gap. Female founders in Chicago and throughout the Midwest receive just $2.90 out of every $100 that is invested in her male counterparts. We will change the way women access capital by empowering women to invest in women. Infusing the market with new female led startups today means a better tomorrow for all of us. The time to fund HER is NOW.
Why is DyMynd Angels a for profit business VS. nonprofit organization? DA is asking for a contribution to support female founders who are running businesses. A contribution made towards the DA Fund is not a charitable donation for programs and services. From a business structure, funds for 501(c)(3)s must be used to support community programs and services. DyMynd Angels is a social movement creating a space for Female Founders and women leaders to meet each other and learn about investing in early stage companies. The DyMynd Angels fund is based on the collection of contributions to boost the female entrepreneurial economy in Chicago. 90% of monies collected will be placed in an evergreen fund to fund female led start-ups and women led businesses and 10% will be used towards the operations of the fund.
What is the Difference between Angel Investing and an Angel Initiative? Because the DyMynd Angels Fund is considered collective investing we named it an "initiative" defined as "the power or opportunity to act or take charge before others do." We believe that by being part of DyMynd Angels some women will follow along, enroll and attend a boot-camp and then be empowered to make Angel Investments.
What is a future female funder vs an Angel Investor in early phase startups? An Angel Investor is a woman who invests in early stage startups or part of a "friends-and-family round" of investing. A Future Female Funder hasn't made an Angel Investment to date. She is a woman committed to becoming an investor in female-led start-ups. Many women don't consider themselves "Angel Investors" when in fact most women are financially supporting women in their lives and community. Many of those investments are in entrepreneurial women who are female founders. Future female funders are women who haven't formally made an Angel Investment to date but is joining the DyMynd Angels Initiative so that she may do so one day.
What is the contributed money totaling $1.92 Million going to fund? The DyMynd Angels Fund will be made up of contributions from a diverse population of contributors and will become an evergreen fund that will give a boost to the female entrepreneurial market by investing the money into 20 or more female led startups throughout Chicago and the Midwest. 90% of the monies collected will be placed into the evergreen fund and 10% will go towards operations of the fund.
How is the money going to be invested? The DyMynd Angels evergreen fund will invest the money on behalf of all the contributors in a minimum of 20 female-led start-ups throughout Chicago and the Midwest on a continuous basis.
Who is going to decide where the money from the DyMynd Angels fund is invested? DyMynd Angels is assembling an investment committee of diverse leading professionals from various industries to make the investment decisions. We know diverse teams have a higher ROI and work more creatively to make high level decisions that will positively impact the female entrepreneurial eco-system.

DyMynd Angels came out of DyMynd and our conversations with women throughout Chicago Came DyMynd Angels as women were becoming more financially empowered and looking for the answer to “what next?” DyMynd Angels is a direct response to the funding gap, and when we say that, we mean the gap in investment strategy and the entrepreneurial pay gap. What Does DyMynd Stand For? Dynamic Minds in Action
Why is the campaign named “The 1920 Vote Your Money Campaign?” We named our campaign after the year 1920 in commemoration of the 19th amendment being ratified. 1920 marked the beginning of the movement for all women to have the right to vote, much like our campaign marks the beginning of the movement to close the funding gap for women in the United States. In 1920, ALL women were NOT granted the right to vote. 1920 is the year that women's suffrage achieved its first victory and we have intentionally named our campaign with the year 1920 so that we are inclusive of all the years and many struggles that followed to pass the 1965 Voting rights act, the 1990 Americans with Disabilities act and the many struggles that still remain today. When we say 1920 we are including the entire span from the initial creation of the amendment to today.
